• Welcome to Korea Research Institute of Military Affairs (KRIMA)

    Since the truce negotiation in 1953 with North Korea, Having been in unstable situation the security of Republic of Korea has been changing steeply with the end of the Cold War era. KRIMA started in March, 1993 tries to acclimatize to the changing situation and make secure and peaceful environment around Korea with the military and the people.

    After KRIMA was authorized as the Corporation Aggregate by the Ministry of National Defense in February 1, 2001, we have been carrying out various activities; research services, publishing monthly magazines(KDR), printing books about military security affairs, having regular seminars and international forums about military and social issues. These are all our efforts to keep the security around Korea and build up advanced peace scheme.

    KRIMA's contribution will be valuable to keep Korea and Far-East peaceful with good participation by people, former and incumbent military officials, citizens and best brains. Why don't you take interest in and participate in KRIMA?

    About K R I M A(Korea Research Institute for Military Affairs)

    Purpose

    KRIMA is a non-profit corporation approved by the ROK Ministry of National Defense. KRIMA is designed to several purposes: enhance the awareness of and participation in national security issues by the Korean population, create security strategies that most effectively serve the Koreans as a whole rather than any particular individuals, privileged groups or factions, and regional powers, and finally develop the most efficient military policies.

    Goals

    KRIMA purports to contribute to promoting national security by accomplishing tasks as follows. First, we help to build common ground of understanding on national security by providing numerous activities ranging from information exchange opportunities among Institute-sponsored security study groups to public forums, seminars, and discussions, thus improve the military's relationship with the Korean population. Second, we conduct acquired research projects regarding national security issues based on our creative ideas and expertise knowledge. Third, we assist in enhancing professionalism in national security policies and security-related science and technology.

    Major Activities and Programs

    Public Promotion and Military-Civil Relations Improvement: Public campaign aimed at increasing the awareness of and building common ground of understanding on national security issues; Civil-military interactions on major security issues through meetings and discussions

    Security Forums, Seminars and Discussions: : National forum aimed at developing national security strategies and alternative options; Civil-military seminars designed to review the application of new military policies or technologies; and Exchange information on or convene forums for promoting international peace

    Public Relations Development and Production : Publishing "Korean Defense Review", a security-related magazine targeted at general Korean population; Publishing books specialized in security issues for active duty military personnel, reserves, and military enthusiasts; Operate the web-site on military affairs. www.military.co.kr

    Organization

    Our institute has 6 people on the Board of Directors. The Advisory Group consists of 9 people. They include Former Defense Ministers Seong Tae Cho, Ho Yong Jung, Sang Hoon Lee, Jong Koo Lee, Former Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sam Nam Yu, Former Vice Defense Minister Byung Kil Ahn and 4 former service chiefs of staff. The Advisory Committee consists of 50 people, some of whom include General Jae Chang Kim(R), Lieutenant General Young Koo Cha(R), and Major General Kwang Chan Ahn(R). The institute has as many as 40 researchers out-sourced from defense industry, academics, and research institutes to conduct various research assignments and projects.
